Foreign Minister and his Eritrean counterpartMinister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh affirmed that security and governance of the Red Sea are the exclusive responsibility of the states bordering it.
The two ministers made the remarks during a meeting, Friday, September 25, 2026, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on regional issues of mutual concern.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said Abdelatty underscored the importance of further developing Egyptian-Eritrean relations and expanding cooperation in various fields in a way that serves the interests of the two countries.
He also reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Eritrea in preserving its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of boosting economic and trade cooperation with Eritrea, expressing Egypt’s interest in increasing bilateral trade, encouraging joint investment and supporting the participation of Egyptian private-sector companies in the Eritrean market, particularly in mining, infrastructure, maritime transport, port development and connectivity, pharmaceuticals and fisheries, as well as capacity-building.
He also invited Eritrean business leaders and companies to participate in the Alamein Africa Forum, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit from October 2 to 4 in El Alamein city.
The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Sudan and Somalia.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for the security and stability of the region, stressing the importance of strengthening national state institutions and preserving the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the region.
