Ambassador Salah Halima, former Assistant Foreign Minister, affirmed that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s recent reception of President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea in Cairo aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, extending to the entire Middle East and Africa region.
Halima explained during a telephone interview with Nile News Channel that Egyptian-Eritrean relations are historical relations that have witnessed a remarkable increase during the period of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s rule, and included security axes related to combating terrorism and security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, as well as economic and investment axes, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, health, and capacity building.
He pointed out that there are shared visions between the two countries regarding the governance of security in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa, based on the fact that the countries bordering the Red Sea are responsible for security, stability and the spread of peace in this vital region for Egyptian, Eritrean, Arab and African national security, especially since it is related to global navigation and trade.
He pointed out that both sides were interested in preserving the unity and territorial integrity of countries against external threats, especially those related to Somalia and Sudan, and the threats affecting Eritrea, and this was reflected in the final statements that affirmed support for the unity and territorial integrity of countries.
Ambassador Salah Halima concluded his remarks by explaining that developing bilateral relations on all fronts aims to strengthen security and stability and confront threats reaching the Red Sea and Horn of Africa region, while emphasizing that security and stability are the responsibility of the littoral states and not of any party outside the region.
Nile News Channel will broadcast special coverage of the Eritrean president's visit to his second home, Egypt.
