Al-Ghamrawi also reviewed the advanced capabilities of the Egyptian pharmaceutical sector, and the regulatory achievements of the Egyptian Drug Authority, which made it the first African regulatory body and the only one so far to have obtained the third maturity level (ML3) from the World Health Organization in the field of regulating locally manufactured medicines and vaccines, reflecting the efficiency of the Egyptian regulatory system and its regional and international standing.
The visit included an inspection tour inside the Gipto Pharma factory, during which President Isaias Afwerki and the accompanying delegation were briefed on the latest production lines and advanced manufacturing technologies, and the factory’s production and technological capabilities that support efforts to localize the pharmaceutical industry and enhance pharmaceutical security in Egypt and the African continent, and confirm the ability of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry to meet the needs of regional and African markets.
For his part, His Excellency President Isaias Afwerki praised the great development that Egypt is witnessing in the pharmaceutical industry sector, and the efforts made by the Egyptian Drug Authority to improve the drug control system and enhance the quality of medical preparations, stressing the importance of benefiting from the pioneering Egyptian experience and expanding areas of joint cooperation in a way that serves health development in both countries.
Both sides emphasized the importance of building on the distinguished relations between Egypt and Eritrea, and enhancing cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer, and building technical and organizational capacities, in order to support health development and achieve sustainable pharmaceutical security for the peoples of the African continent.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s strategy aimed at expanding cooperation with sister African countries, enhancing continental integration in the fields of medicine and healthcare, and consolidating Egypt’s position as a leading regional center for pharmaceutical industries and drug control in Africa.
The Egyptian Drug Authority affirms its full readiness to provide technical support, exchange experiences and build capacities with our brothers in the State of Eritrea, in a way that contributes to the development of the pharmaceutical system and enhances opportunities for joint cooperation and investment, based on Egypt’s vision of supporting African integration and achieving sustainable health development for the peoples of the continent.
