Isaias Afevorki arrived in Russia to participate in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin

MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow. The head of Eritrea arrived in the capital to participate in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talk between the leaders of the two countries is scheduled for Wednesday.

The politicians are expected to discuss the prospects for the development of Russian-Eritrean relations in various fields, as well as topical issues on the regional and international agenda, the Kremlin press service reported.

The President of Eritrea was accompanied by a delegation of politicians. The laying ceremony was held with the participation of the Military Exemplary Band of the Guard of Honor. Upon its completion, Afewerki, together with the delegation, examined the monument and talked with the deputy military commandant of Moscow, Sergei Zakharenkov.

Afwerki has been the head of state since 1993 and is the first and so far the only president of Eritrea, which gained independence from Ethiopia in May of that year. In January of this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Eritrea as part of a tour of African countries. Then Lavrov held talks with the Eritrean president, they discussed the economy, mining, information and communication technologies, agriculture, infrastructure projects, the possibilities of the sea and air ports of Massawa, as well as Russian proposals for the development of industry in Eritrea.
