Gov’t Drafting Legal Documents To Benefit Ethiopia And Eritrea: MFA

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2019 (FBC) –Preparation of trade agreements that could bring benefits to both Ethiopia and Eritrea is underway, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

State Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Hirut Zemene and Dr Aklilu Hailemichael, today briefed journalists on performance of MFA last budget year, which ended July 7, 2019.

Hirut said the Government is drafting legal documents that are beneficial for both nations.

Regularizing trade between the two nations would help to further cement the exiting relations and economic benefits of the countries, the State Minister said.

Ethiopia and Eritrea signed peace deal in July last year after nearly two decades of hostility.

She further said Ethiopia, in partnership with Djibouti, Kenya and other neighboring countries, had carried out wide-ranging activities to maintain peace and promote regional integration, including for restoration of peace in Sudan

Dr Aklilu Hailemichael, for his part said Ethiopia had managed to carry out more economic diplomacy than its plan in the concluded budget year.

He stated that 168 business forums were organized and 1,150 companies visited the nation. About 225 companies are on process to invest in the country. Ethiopian investors also created business links with 67 foreign investors.

More than 27,000 Ethiopian, who have been in jail in various countries, were released and returned home. About 112, 615 undocumented Ethiopians also returned in the concluded budget year.

He further said attention has been attached for the release of over 4,000 Ethiopians jailed in various counties.
