CAIRO (Sputnik) – The presidential palace in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum is in flames, the Al Arabiya broadcaster reported on Friday. According to the reports, the fire engulfed the historic part of the building near the Nile.
Sudanese President Omar Bashir and his administration are working in a new residence located several hundred meters from the historic building.
There are no reports about any casualties as a result of the fire.
Later in the day, the SUNA news agency reported that the Sudanese presidential administration's civil defence forces have tackled the fire.
According to the media, the fire hit only several cabinets of the palace.
