Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is not yet done with surprises and this time he is flying to Eritrea with an entourage of aides including; technical, business and diplomatic experts.

This is a follow-up on the recent ice-breaker visit by the Eritreans who were in Addis Ababa just few days ago. The two countries had never established peaceful contact for more than 20 years.

Eritrea was once part of the larger federal Ethiopia but succeeded triggering prolonged military incursions that led to the death and displacement of millions of people on either side.

For all these years Ethiopia and Eritrea did not agree on the border and regularly renegaded on ceasfire treaties. However, Prime Minister Abiy says enough is enough and there shouldn’t be more suffering.

The government in Asmara has instructed all its civil servants to make extensive preparations to welcome Ethiopia’s Prime minister who is expected to visit Eritrea on Sunday.

Government institutions have informed their employees to come out to the streets of Asmara at 7:30am local time to welcome the Ethiopian leader.

While addressing millions of supporters at a rally in Mesqel Square, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on June 23, Prime Minister Abiy said that; No army, no government, no terrorist and no criminal against humanity can stop an idea whose time has come. The time for truth, peace, reconciliation and peace has come to Ethiopia now.

“Nothing and no one can stop our march on the two roads Nelson Mandela named for us: Goodness and Forgiveness.”
