Ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has released details of a letter dated 1966 purportedly from then Saudi King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz to US President Lyndon Johnson which claims that “Egyptian forces would not withdraw from Yemen unless Israel moved to occupy Gaza, Sinai, and the West Bank”, Almotamar Net news site reported.

Saleh went on to urge the Arab countries participating in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, especially Egypt, to immediately withdraw from the alliance.

“The events in Saudi Arabia, the blockade on Qatar, and the Sudanese President’s visit to Russia are all a part of the changing equations,” he said.

According to Saleh, the letter outlines what King Faisal described as Egypt’s dangerous role in Yemen and the region in general through its support for the rebels and provoking the people’s emotions against “us all”, i.e. the US and Saudi Arabia, as well as Egypt’s ongoing and historical efforts to overthrow “our governments”.

The letter also lists points that confirm Egypt is the greatest enemy to Saudi Arabia and the US.

King Faisal also stressed the need for the US to support Israel and execute a sudden operation against Egypt to control the vital areas in the country, not only forcing it to withdraw its forces from Yemen, but also to distract Egypt with Israel for as long as possible.

The Saudi King also suggested that the Gaza Strip be immediately seized under Egyptian control and considered Jordan’s control of the West Bank very important in order for the Palestinians to lose hope of controlling any land.
