Natnael Tesfatsion will remain with Movistar Team through the end of 2028 after agreeing a two-year contract extension with the Spanish WorldTour squad.
The Eritrean joined Movistar at the start of 2025 and has taken a clear step forward during the 2026 season. Two victories have been backed up by stronger results across both one-day races and stage races, giving the team a straightforward reason to extend his stay for another two seasons.
Tesfatsion’s first win of the year came with a stage victory at the 4 Jours de Dunkerque, where he also finished second overall. He later added the Circuito de Getxo to his palmarès and placed sixth overall at the Deutschland Tour.
His WorldTour one-day results have also improved. Tesfatsion finished fifth at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and was seventh at Eschborn-Frankfurt, where he made the late selection that fought for the win in Frankfurt.
That range has become one of the more useful parts of his profile. Tesfatsion is well suited to short, explosive climbs but still carries enough speed to finish from reduced groups, which opens up opportunities in hilly Classics and harder stages where pure sprinters are removed from contention.
“A new chapter, in the same home. I’m very happy to renew my contract and continue representing this team,” Tesfatsion said after the extension was confirmed.
The new agreement keeps Tesfatsion in Movistar colours until the end of the 2028 season. After joining the team in 2025, his 2026 results have moved him from a useful attacking option into a rider capable of regularly contesting selective finishes and one-day races.
