Chairman of the Sovereignty Council arrives in Eritrea
Asmara, July 17, 2026 (SUNA) – The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived today in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on a fraternal visit reflecting the deep bonds of brotherhood and affection between the two nations. He was received at Asmara International Airport by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.
The two presidents discussed the progress of bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to advance prospects for joint cooperation between Khartoum and Asmara in various fields.
They emphasized the importance of strengthening the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the two brotherly peoples.
The visit of the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council to the State of Eritrea comes as a confirmation of Sudan’s keenness to strengthen its relations with neighboring Eritrea, and also reflects the level of joint coordination between the leaderships of the two countries regarding regional and international issues and establishing security and stability in the region.
