48 Yemeni fishermen returned to the fishing port in the coastal area of Al-Khawbah in Al-Luhayyah district of Al-Hudaydah governorate after more than 12 days.
The fishermen, upon being received at the port in the presence of the port director Abdo Al-Jalhabi, reported that they had been carrying out their usual fishing activity in Yemeni territorial waters on board three “Jalbah” type boats in different locations, before patrols belonging to the Eritrean navy intercepted them under threat of arms and took them to its prisons.
They reported that the Eritrean authorities, after they had spent 12 days in captivity and subjected to arbitrary practices, confiscated two of their three boats with all their equipment, fishing gear and their personal belongings, before releasing them on one boat that took them to the fishing port of Al-Khawba.
Upon their arrival, the fishermen were received at the port in the presence of Abdullah Al-Humaidah, representative of the Coast Guard Center in Al-Khoba, where the port director handed them symbolic cash amounts provided by the Red Sea Fisheries Authority to help them return to their homes.
