In press statements following his return from the Eritrean capital, Asmara, Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris described his visit as "historic" and fruitful on all levels. He explained that the visit included meetings with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and members of his government, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The discussions took place in an interactive and supportive atmosphere, and witnessed a clear affirmation of the depth of relations between the two countries.
Within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation, it was agreed to continue coordination between the two countries in all regional and international forums, including support for Sudan's return to the African Union. Dr. Idris also revealed an agreement to launch a number of joint projects, most notably the establishment of major marine fisheries in the Red Sea, refineries for processing gold and oil, and investment projects in the minerals sector.
The Prime Minister stated that it was agreed to activate bilateral committees, including the political committee, and to establish a new economic committee to monitor and implement all joint projects, in addition to enhancing security and intelligence cooperation between Sudan and Eritrea.
