Eritreans in the diaspora are determined to undertake an effective and sustainable resistance against relentless Ethiopian war mongering and Western conspiracies-Part-1

Introduction

Eritreans in the diaspora should remain steadfast in our determination to protect the unprecedented political, economic and diplomatic achievements of our government notwithstanding the relentless but futile attempts by its detractors to trivialize its achievements and tarnish its well-deserved positive image at the regional and international levels. The recent unprovoked and unjustified assault by inept and narcissistic elements in Ethiopia in collusion with their handlers in the West will, needless to say, strengthen our resolve to continue to support our government and defend our multi-dimensional achievements as a people. The leader in Ethiopia, possessed by messianic complex, has been following the footsteps of his predecessors and exhibiting expansionist intentions. His sycophants have left no stone unturned in echoing his saber rattling aimed at intimidation and regional destabilization. And his intellectually compromised media pundits have been busy manufacturing distorted and blatantly illegal historical analyses to externalize the precarious situation their failed state finds itself in. The habitual behavior on the part of successive Ethiopian rulers to try to divert international attention is déjà vu and, therefore, an exercise in futility.

Since its formation, the EPLF - which re-named itself as PFDJ (People’s Front for Democracy and Justice) in post-independence Eritrea, has been consistent in its undertaking of three interconnected objectives: a fiercely independent foreign policy, economic self-reliance and a politically stable and economically viable region through mutual cooperation. The US and its allies realized that PFDJ’s embrace of such objectives would jeopardize their economic and strategic geopolitical interests in the region. The US and UK diplomatic sabotage against Eritrea that dates back to the mid-1940s did not relent during the struggle for independence and even gathered more steam in the post- independence period. A sovereign Eritrea that would confidently pursue the above stated objectives has been viewed as a direct threat to the interests of the West and their allies.

The history of PFDJ is unquestionably the history of the Eritrean people. So, any effort to demonize it and denigrate its political, diplomatic, social and military achievements should be viewed as an affront to the protracted and arduous struggle of the Eritrean people for self-determination and liberation. So, it is incumbent upon Eritreans to take control of the multi-dimensional narratives that define our history and achievements. Allowing our detractors to do so will inevitably result in revisionist history and deliberate omissions.

In my next posting, I will share what I consider significant historical, political, and diplomatic milestones that explain why the Eritrean people in the diaspora support and will continue to support the Government of Eritrea ( GOE). It is my hope that such an endeavor will help our communities gain a better insight into our protracted, heroic and arduous struggle for self-determination and liberation and underline the need to stay the course at all costs. It may also cure the selective amnesia that Ethiopian elites and their handlers in the West have been exhibiting.
