MOSCOW, July 28 - RIA Novosti. Eritrea intends to purchase a wide range of weapons and military equipment from Russia, Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) of Russia, told RIA Novosti at the Russia-Africa forum.

The current portfolio of African countries is about 20%.

After the UN Security Council sanctions were lifted from Eritrea in July 2019, a decree was issued by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin , which allowed the resumption of full-scale military-technical cooperation with this state.

"Currently, the Eritrean side is expressing interest in purchasing a wide range of Russian-made military products," Shugaev said.

After the collapse of the USSR, Russia left the East African region, but returned in 1996 and, in particular, four combat helicopters were delivered to Eritrea. Another six combat helicopters were transferred in 1997.
