Calabria: Nicola Carè (IV), "No to the closure of the Asmara Institute in Eritrea"
"To prevent the closure of the Italian State-owned All-inclusive Institute of Asmara in Eritrea". This is what the Hon. Nicola Carè, MP from Italia Viva, in a question addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio.
"The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic - he adds - have invested the largest Italian state institution in the world, founded in 1935, a key instrument of Italian cooperation in Eritrea, which includes kindergarten, primary school, first grade secondary school and secondary school. In fact, on March 25, 2020, in the full lockdown phase , a note revoking the license was sent to the Italian government by the office of the President of the Eritrean government. In this regard, it should be noted that relations between Italy and Eritrea are governed by a bilateral agreement signed in 2012 pending renewal. "
“Given the situation that has emerged - underlines the Hon. Carè - the risk of a failure to reopen the school is very serious considering that the local Ministry of Education has not authorized the final exams of the second cycle of education for students with Eritrean citizenship. This hypothesis must be absolutely rejected ".
“For these reasons it is necessary to intervene promptly - concludes the Hon. Carè - in order to allow the Italian Institute of Asmara to continue its consolidated activity and its fundamental and prestigious educational and training role of the new generations ".
