Rome, 23 April (askanews) - US Deputy Secretary of State for African Affairs, Donald Yamamoto, is on a mission to East Africa. According to what was announced by the State Department, Yamamoto arrived yesterday in Eritrea where he will stay until tomorrow, before leaving for Djibouti, from where he will reach Ethiopia on April 26th.
In Asmara, Yamamoto will have "bilateral consultations with government officials, meet the diplomatic community and visit the embassy staff". So "will guide the US delegation to the US-Djibout forum of 24 and 25 April in Djibouti, our annual dialogue on political, economic, aid and security cooperation issues", reads the note.
Last stop, on April 26th, in Addis Ababa, where he will meet government officials.
Last November, Yamamoto told the press that the United States is working to resolve the "neither war nor peace" situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia, which has been going on since the end of the 1998-2000 conflict.
