I am writing to announce a panel discussion planned for February 26, 2000 on
the Eritrean-Ethiopian conflict. Professors Ed Keller (UCLA) and Don
Rothchild
(UC Davis) have agreed to moderate the discussion, and it will be open to the
public (with limited seating up to 180). I have attached a draft agenda.
The discussion is sponsored on a pro bono basis by the Center for Strategic
Decision Research, a non-partisan research institute located in Menlo Park.
(Please see the attached description of the organization for more
information.) My colleague, Whitney Hischier, and I are organizing this panel
discussion because we are interested in conflict resolution in the realm of
international relations. We are by no means experts on this conflict or on the
Horn of Africa. We hope, however, that this discussion will help us gain
experience in bringing people together over difficult issues, and we would
eventually like to do more work with African issues. We also hope that this
exercise will be a fruitful experience for all involved and will help promote
dialogue and better relations between the Eritrean and Ethiopian communities.
We are still in the process of confirming speakers, and we would like to have
2-3 speakers representing each country's views. If you can recommend
