Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh arrived Thursday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, heading a high-level delegation, including the advisor of Eritrean President Yamani Djebrab and other officials to hold a joint meeting of the joint high commission.

The meeting dealt with the assessment of progress in bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the implementation of the peace agreement signed in July in the Eritrean capital of Asmara.

Saleh is expected to deliver a letter from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to Prime Minister Abe Ahmed on bilateral relations and regional developments of common interest.

The meeting of the Joint High Committee of the two countries to assess progress in bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and the implementation of the first peace and friendship agreement after the signing of the peace agreement last July.

In conjunction with the Eritrean Foreign Minister's visit, the delegation of Eritrean People's Diplomacy is visiting a number of Ethiopian cities, where the popular delegation includes 55 members from various sectors in Eritrea, as well as a popular folkloric ensemble.

The visit of the Eritrean delegation to Ethiopia aims at strengthening the historical relations and ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The delegation of the Eritrean People's Diplomacy presented several events, concerts and cultural events, in cooperation with Ethiopian artists, to reflect the cultural and artistic ties between the two countries in Addis Ababa, Adama, Bahr Dar and Awasa under the theme "Celebrating Peace".

In July, Eritrea and Ethiopia signed a peace agreement that ended two decades of hostilities between the two countries and improved relations with both Djibouti and Somalia, which in turn contributed to easing tensions in the Horn of Africa.

The UAE hosted the signing ceremony of the final peace agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The agreement ended one of the longest military confrontations in Africa, which destabilized the region and prompted the two governments to pump large sums of their budgets to spend on security and the armed forces at the expense of development.
