Dr. Fikrejesus Amahazion was born in Asmara, Eritrea and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from St. Mary's High School before receiving a scholarship to Saint Bonaventure University (New York, USA). At Saint Bonaventure, Fikrejesus received a BA in Sociology (graduating Summa Cum Laude) and he was the recipient of the university’s Thomas Augustine Award as the distinguished Sociology graduate. He also represented the university's soccer team and won various athletic awards. Subsequently, Dr. Amahazion completed his Master’s Degree and PhD in Sociology at Emory University (Atlanta, USA). At Emory, Dr. Amahazion also received the Graduate Certificate in Human Rights from Emory’s Institute of Human Rights. Dr. Amahazion’s work focuses on Human Rights, Political Economy, and Development, and his research has been featured and published in a broad range of newspapers, magazines, books, and peer-reviewed academic journals. Currently, Dr. Amahazion is teaching and conducting research in Eritrea.
