An emotional Biniam Girmay finds it difficult to hold back his tears after his victory in the third stage of the Tour de France . “Since I started cycling, I never dared to dream of one day participating in the Tour de France ,” says the first black African stage winner in the Tour.
"I want to thank God for everything. Since I started cycling, I never dared to dream of ever participating in the Tour de France . To win in my second participation is amazing," an emotional Girmay opens.
The Intermarché-Wanty sprinter wipes his tears and reflects on how special his victory is for African cycling. “I would like to thank my wife, my family and the people of Eritrea and Africa. They should be proud, we are now really part of the big races. This is our moment. This is for all Africans, I am just very happy today.”
