Murder investigation launched after man dies following large fight in Rusholme 

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died following an assault in Rusholme.

Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a large fight involving around 15-20 men on Wilmslow Road in the early hours of the morning on 26 January.

Emanuel Gabriel Simon, 33, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries before passing away earlier today.

No arrests have been made so far.

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Jones said: "I would first like to pass on my most sincere of condolences to the family of Emanuel who have had to endure a horrendous few weeks and now have been told of the most dreadful news.

He added: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been involved or witnessed a large brawl directly outside the Dubai Café on Wilmslow Road in the early hours of Sunday 26 January to get in contact with us immediately."

Paying tribute to Emanuel, his family said: "Emanuel came over to the UK in 2008 from Eritrea, east Africa.

"He had big dreams and aspirations to be a doctor and studied medicine at Manchester University.

"He worked hard while balancing both his job and his studies and after taking a gap year he had been accepted to join a university in Leeds to continue his studies in medicine."
