On May 6, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that China-Eritrea relations are traditionally friendly. The two sides have always understood each other and supported each other in matters involving their core interests and major concerns. China cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries and is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Ecuadorian side, enhance understanding, deepen mutual trust and develop together.
Wang Yi pointed out that in September last year and the end of last month, the Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and the second "One Belt, One Road" International Cooperation Summit were successful, and African countries actively participated in the two major events. China and Africa are strengthening the docking under the framework of the Beijing Summit and the “One Belt, One Road” framework to implement the results and achieve common development. Under this situation, China-Egypt cooperation needs to catch up with the trend of China-Africa cooperation. We are willing to share development opportunities with the Ecuadorian side and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. China is pleased to see that the situation in the Horn of Africa has improved and is willing to continue to play a constructive role in this regard. The relationship between China and African countries is based on non-interference in internal affairs. We agree with the idea that Africa's problems should be resolved by Africa. We are willing to work with African countries including the Ecuadorian side to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
Osman conveyed President Isaias’ sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. He said that Ecuador and China have similar experiences as developing countries, and the two sides have always firmly supported each other. The Iraqi side regards China as a long-term, true friend and welcomes China to play a positive role in promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. China’s comprehensive development achievements are an important contribution to the world. The Ecuadorian side is willing to work with China to promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, economy, society and culture, strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, and promote the sustained, healthy and stable development of the Ecuador-China partnership.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
