Tropical Amissa Bongo Step 3: The very young Biniyam Ghirmay gets a great first Victory
The 18-year-old rider from Eritrea's squad made a surprise in Gabon on Wednesday, claiming the third stage of Tropicale Amissa Bongo.
Running 98 kilometers between Leconi and Franceville the race offered a scenario similar to the previous two days. Indeed, a breakaway of two riders quickly took the lead before with the outgoing winner Joseph Areruya(Rwanda) and Henok Mulubrhan (Eritrea). But certainly considered too dangerous for the general classification, the duo was taken again after only 35 kilometers. After the junction, new attacks occur and five riders manage to take the lead. Here we find Jayde Julius (Pro Touch), Metkel Eyob (Eritrea), Clovis Kamzong(Cameron), Temesgen Buru (Ethiopia) and Abdallah Benyoucef(Algeria). The peloton, still so little decided to leave a considerable lead to the fugitives, will stabilize the gap around a minute 30 before finally resume at the start of the last 10 kilometers.
