Arab Leaders Congratulate Saudi Arabia on Success of Historic Jeddah Summit

Leaders from across the Arab world congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz for hosting in Jeddah on Sunday the signing of a peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah hailed King Salman for supporting the historic “Jeddah Agreement” that “will bolster security and stability in Ethiopia and Eritrea.”

In a cable to King Salman that the peace agreement will pave the way for security in the Horn of Africa.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah also sent a similar cable of congratulations.

The Kingdom of Bahrain hailed the Jeddah Agreement, saying its reflects Saudi Arabia’s “pivotal and strategic role on the regional and international arenas.”

“The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques seeks to bring about peace and stability around the world,” it stressed.

It added that Manama supports Riyadh’s efforts “in spreading peace and maintaining friendly international relations based on good-neighborliness and respect for international laws and charters.”

The United Arab Emirates echoed this praise, underlining King Salman’s efforts to “consolidate the foundations of security, stability and prosperity in the region.”

His sponsoring of the peace agreement reflects his “careful vision that recognizes the vital link between the security of the Horn of Africa and the Arab world.”

Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimen lauded King Salman’s wise diplomacy that led to the signing of the deal.

“The Saudi leadership seeks to end conflicts and support the convergence of views in order to achieve peace, security and stability,” he said in a statement.

Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Solami hailed King Salman’s great efforts in sponsoring the Jeddah summit, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s vital role in maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and world.

The Islamic World League (MWL) praised King Salman’s historic peace efforts, saying that the peace deal reflects the “great attention Saudi Arabia attaches to the issues of world peace.”

Sunday’s historic summit has “proven that the Kingdom is one of the most important pillars of world peace,” said MWL Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.

Eritrea and Ethiopia signed the peace deal on Sunday at a ceremony in Jeddah overseen by King Salman and attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.

The signing ceremony between Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was also attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders were awarded for their efforts the Order of King Abdulaziz Medal, the kingdom's highest civilian honor.

Guterres described the signing of the Jeddah Agreement as an "historic event."
