The second meeting of the independent scientific research group of experts and academics from the Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia ended with a discussion on the options and strategies for filling the Renaissance Dam Lake after Sudan and Egypt presented their observations on the Ethiopian proposal to fill Lake.
The meetings, which started on Saturday, discussed the proposal presented by Ethiopia at the first meeting of the scientific group in Cairo.
The three sides agreed that the group of Ethiopian researchers would respond to the comments of the two countries at the next meeting in Addis Ababa on July 21 and 22.
The head of the Sudanese side at the meetings, Khader Gasim al-Seed, said that the scientific deliberations of the group based on facts, which enabled the meeting to reach outputs agreed upon according to the schedule and the specific agenda.
The proposal to form a scientific committee was presented at the meeting with the participation of foreign ministers, water resources and intelligence chiefs of the three countries in Khartoum on April 6.
It was included in the outcome document of the second meeting in Addis Ababa on 15 May last. The committee held its first meeting in Cairo earlier this month, in which Ethiopia presented a proposal for the strategy of filling the dam lake to be studied by the Sudan and Egypt.
