Medhanie Tesfamariam Behre's lawyer flew to Sweden with a geneticist who took samples of saliva from his wife and the son of the "general". The child is not the biological son of the man in prison
He is not his son. Genetics gives reason to that boy who for two years has been beating his chest inside a Palermo prison swearing that he is not "the general", the Eritrean trafficker Medhanie Yehdego Mered who on the skin of hundreds of thousands of migrants would have earned a fortune. The DNA of the two-and-a-half-year-old son, son of Lydia Tesfu Hannes and Medhanie Yehdego Mered, is not compatible with that of the young man who was imprisoned in May 2016. "It is not him - says lawyer Michele Calantropo, who at the Court of Assizes of Palermo defends that boy - and besides it could not be any different because my client, as we say from the first day, is called Medhanie Tesfamariam Behre and is not a trafficker ". The boy, a carpenter, was arrested by the Italian and English police in Sudan and immediately the photoprovided by the investigators had raised more than one doubt. Now this result could call into question everything. The Court of Assizes of Palermo, in front of which the trial is celebrated, has given assent to the withdrawal of the DNA. Today the lawyer of Behre has deposited the advice on which the Court will then have to express itself.
