Rome, 27 April - US Deputy Secretary of State Donald Yamamoto met the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Workneh Gebeyehu, in Addis Ababa today. According to a statement published by the Foreign Ministry and relaunched by local media, Workneh explained to the American diplomat the government's commitment to a peaceful solution to the "neither war nor peace" situation with neighboring Eritrea.
In his inaugural address on April 2, the new Ethiopian premier, Abiy Ahmed, declared that "for the common good of our two countries, not only for our benefit, but for that of the two blood-bound nations, we are ready to resolve our differences through dialogue ", inviting" the Eritrean government to show the same feelings ".
Yamamoto arrived in Ethiopia after stopping right in Asmara, where he met President Isaias Afewerki, and in Djibouti. According to the Ethiopian media, in his two-day visit he will also meet Premier Abiy.
The American diplomat was ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, and charged with affairs at the Asmara embassy.
