The prestigous science journal Physics has published several studies including one showing how the Sahara Desert, the worlds largest, has been growing steadily since the 1920's (see the map that shows how southern Eritrea/Afar has been affected). It also has published an article on how rainfall in the Sahel can be predicted as well as one on how by lowering air polution in the USA rainfall in the Sahel will increase.
