Eritrean double in the first stage of the Tour de l'Espoir

January 31, 2018

Cameroon has kicked off today the Tour de l'Espoir , the first round of the UCI Nations Cup Under23 season with all the African teams starting with the selection of Vietnam. The first stage, 92 kilometers with start and finish in Doula, was dominated by the national team of Eritrea with two athletes in the first two places: to cut the finish line first, all alone, was the 20 year old Natnael Mebrahtom who last month November had played a good Tour du Rwanda.
Behind Mebrahtom came a squad of five runners, slightly frayed and set in a sprint by the other Eritrean Zemenfes Selemun : he and the Moroccan El Mehdi Chokri were classified at 27 "of delay, at 29" we find instead the South African Louis Visser and the strong RwandanJoseph Areruya , sixth place to 31 "for another Moroccan, Mohcine El Kouraji ; all the others have accused heavy detachments, almost three minutes to go up. Mebrahtom is obviously the first leader of the general classification with 24 "on Selemun, 33" on Chokri, 35 "on Arerouya, 39" on El Kouraji and 40 "on Visser.
