On the impact of border skirmishes between Sudan and Ethiopia, today, Friday, a high-ranking delegation of Khartoum leaders headed to the Eritrean capital Asmara.

The visit of the delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan (Hemedti), comes the day after the end of the visit of the Eritrean President's envoy and advisor Yemane Ghebreab and Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to Sudan.

Hemedti said on his Facebook page: “Today we left for neighboring Eritrea, and the delegation included Foreign Minister Omar Qamar al-Din, Director of the General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Jamal Abdul Majeed, and a number of state officials, as part of a visit to discuss relations between the two countries, cooperation, good neighborliness, and the situation in the region and the region.

Informed sources revealed to Al-Ain Al-Akhbar that the Sudanese delegation’s visit to Eritrea tops its agenda with the file of border tensions with Ethiopia, and that this issue will be discussed with President Isaias Afwerki.

On its visit to Khartoum, the Eritrean delegation met with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and his deputy Hamidati, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Omar Qamar al-Din.

According to the sources, the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Hemedti, will also visit southern Sudan to discuss the border issue with Ethiopia.

During the past weeks, the Sudanese-Ethiopian border has witnessed border tensions and skirmishes that prompted Khartoum to deploy its soldiers on the eastern borders in a move that raised Addis Ababa's concern.
