We live in an age of pervasive censorship where corporations, under the guise of “fact checking” and “protecting the greater good”, have undertaken a most Orwellian form of news suppression. Using algorithms and key word exclusions, global behemoths like Facebook, Twitter and Google have effectively become neo-Stasis where they determine what is fit to print and what is right for consumption. Giving this level of power to a few conglomerations is akin to Germans handing their freedoms over to the SS or Russians ceding their liberty to Stalin. Truth-telling becomes impossible in this paradigm; those who seek to become muckrakers are either silenced or forced to comply to the corporate agenda.
Given this onerous state of our nation and the planet as a whole, independent media have two choices: either watch helplessly as our voices and our reach are decimated or we give up. But we at the Ghion Journal have decided to go a third way. Where social media giants use high tech means to suppress our reach, we ask our readers and supporters to go low-tech in order to overcome their roadblocks. Instead of depending solely on Twitter, Facebook and Google to disseminate our articles, a vital component of our outreach is email. They have the means to restrict our access to newsfeeds and drastically impede our ability to be noticed in people’s timelines, but their ability to inhibit email is limited. ....continued..
