Tegucigalpa, Oct 18 (EFE) .- Honduran authorities detained 45 undocumented immigrants, most of them from Africa and headed to the United States, for illegally entering the country, an official source said today.

Police agents detained 17 immigrants from El Congo, 13 from Angola, 8 from Cuba and 7 from Eritrea, according to a Honduran police report.

All were arrested Wednesday for illegally circulating in Honduran territory in the department of Choluteca, bordering Nicaragua, south of the country, and their destination was the United States, he added.

They were sent to the facilities that the National Institute of Migration has in Choluteca, where the authorities will decide if they are sent back to their countries or are granted a permit to cross the national territory, according to the authorities.

So far in 2018 the Honduran authorities have detained more than 4,009 foreigners in different customs points of the country, according to figures from the National Institute of Migration.

Honduras has become in recent years a transit point for immigrants, especially Cubans and Africans, who leave their countries to go to the United States.

In recent days thousands of Hondurans have left the nation in caravans with the intention of reaching the US, whose business manager in Honduras, Heide Fulton, asked them on Wednesday to "return to their country" because they are "deceived." with false promises on the part of leaders with political and criminal ends "and his trip is" destined to fail ".EFE
