Dear ESA participants (who need hotel reservations),

Our counterparts in Asmara have sent us the following pieces
of information on hotel reservation situation and on currency
exchanges in Asmara (since they fluctuate almost on a daily
basis, exchange rates are not shown--- you can always check
the exchange rates at web sites such as the following,
http://www.xe.com/ucc/full.shtml):

A) Hotel Reservations:

They have TEMPORARILY reserved hotel rooms in the
     following hotels:

     Hotel Rates (U.S. $)/Day
     -------- --------------------------
     Nyala $18 - $20
     Selam 18 - 28
     AmbaSoira (Hamasien) 28 - 34
     Ambassador 31 - 40
     Savannah 40 - 60
     Bologna 48 - 72
     Expo 60 - 72

Urgent confirmation is needed otherwise they (hotel owners)
will cancel the reservations. You can send your response
directly to Ato Alemseged at <alem@eol.com.er>. Please
indicate your choice of hotel, the dates that you will
stay (at least the probable dates if you can't pin down
the exact date at this stage).

The rate ranges take into account for suites, ordinary rooms and
double beds. The lowest rates are for rooms with double beds
     and the highest for suites.

B. Currency Exchange in Asmara:

The following currencies can be exchanged at official exchange
      bureaus in Asmara:

US Dollar British Pound Saudi Rial Dutch Guilder
Norwegian & Danish Kroner Canadian Dollar
Ethiopian Birr Abu Dhabi Dirham Kenyan Shilling.

Regarding what credit cards are acceptable, we will get back to you later.

PLEASE TREAT THIS WITH UTMOST URGENCY AND ALWAYS
CONFIRM ALL RESERVATIONS.

Yacob Fisseha
