Dear Friends,
IF YOU CAN'T FLY TO AND BACK FROM ASMARA
BETWEEN JULY 17TH AND 31st, DON'T BOTHER TO
READ ANY FURTHER.
We continue to hear the problem of securing a plane
ticket to Asmara on Lufthansa for the ESA Conference.
Our counterpart member of the Planning and Organizing
Committee in Asmara, Ato Alemseged, has been almost
fully preoccupied lately with this issue. Yet there does
not seem any break through in the problem. One thing
that has been floated as a trial balloon is to enter into a
half-way charter arrangement with Yemen Airline
between Rome and Asmara. SUCH ARRANGEMENT
WILL WORK HOWEVER, IF THERE ARE AT LEAST 50
PASSENGERS WHO ARE WILLING OR ABLE TO FLY
TO ASMARA BETWEEN JULY 17 AND 31.
Here is how it would work:
Yemen Airlines flies out of Rome to Sanaa regularly on Tuesdays and Fridays; it also flies back to Rome on
the same days of the following week. The Charter flight
between Rome and Asmara would work if people are
willing to travel from Rome to Asmara EITHER on
July 17th or 20th AND are willing to travel back from
Asmara to Rome EITHER on July 27th or 31st.
The idea is then to make agreement with Yemen Airlines
to make a stopover in Asmara both to drop off Asmara-bound
passengers on its way to Sanaa and to pick them up from
Asmara the following week on its way back to Rome.
This means passengers may need two round trip tickets:
1. Rome to Asmara and
2. Rome to wherever their home place may be.
In order for the above plan to have a reasonable chance to work,
we need to get at least 50 people who are willing to travel on the
round trip charter flight between Rome and Asmara.
Can you and are you willing to take the charter flight between
Rome and Asmara between July 17th and July 30th?
If you are, please send your name (and the names of your family
members, if relevant) by e-mail right away to fisseha@msu.edu (certainty no later than next Tuesday).
PLEASE NOTE:
- Whatever travel arrangements you are making please
don't cancel it; the charter arrangement is not definite yet;
- Unless you are definite you can make the charter trip,
don't submit your name as we may not be able to
refund you if you decide later to back out.
