Harare, December 02, 2009 -The troubled Zimbabwe Warriors who left the
country at the last minute due to financial problems, drew nil-all with
Eritrea in their opening Council for East Africa Football Association
(CECAFA) game on Tuesday night in Kenya.

The Warriors left the country on Tuesday around midday for Kenya were they
were scheduled to play Eritrea in their opening match. The team left at the
last minute after they were running around trying to secure US$25 000 for
the air travel expenses.

However the Warriors put their problems behind them and managed a draw
against Eritrea.

The Warriors were invited to the the 33rd edition of the tournament after
scooping the COSAFA Senior Challenge which Zimbabwe hosted last month. The
other COSAFA team invited are finalists Zambia's Chipolopolo, which
participated in the past two tournaments, winning in Addis Ababa two years
ago but getting knocked out in the quarter finals of last year’s tournament
in Kampala.

Zimbabwe last competed in the CECAFA tournament in 1985 and won the
tournament. Zimbabwe will meet Somalia in their second Group match on
Friday. They wind up their campaign with a game against Rwanda on Saturday.

 The tournament is being broadcast live pay station Supersport

The CECAFA tournament is sponsored by Orange, one of the world’s leading
telecommunication operators. CECAFA and Orange have agreed on a US$175,000
deal for the event which takes place in the Kenyan towns of Nairobi and
Mumias until Sunday, December 13th.
