TRUE SUCCESS IN DENVER! (YPFDJ & PFDJ DENVER)

On October 9th, YPFDJ and PFDJ Denver hosted what lived up to be one of the
best concerts put on in Denver. The outstanding performances by Korchach and
Bekita Ali had all guests on their feet all night, dancing nonstop to their
beautiful beats. The venue was packed to capacity, and guests could not stop
talking about how much fun they had and how this was by far one of the best
organized events put on in Denver.

One measure of this event’s success was the support that it was able to
garner. Despite the divisions and challenges faced in the Denver community,
this event was able to draw a crowd that was diverse and united under two
key themes, nationalism (support of one's country and/or national culture
above other things) and patriotism (love of and/or devotion to country). The
attendance and participation was the biggest this city has seen in a long
time and the enthusiasm and energy was felt throughout the room all night!
In addition to the amazing response from the local Eritrean community,
Eritreans from Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, St.Louis, Oklahoma, and Washington,
D.C. as well as non-Eritrean friends also came out to support the event.

Another measure of this event’s success was the role that young people had
from start to finish. Starting from the planning process, setup and clean
up, logistics, communications/promotions, presentations, ticket sales, etc.
young people were in charge! Moreover, a significant portion of the crowd on
the dance floor were young people passionately moved by the music and by
being together. If there was ever a question about the nationalism and/or
capacity of our young people, this event was a testament that their
nationalism is strong and their capacity is abundant.

Towards the middle of the evening, YPFDJ Denver thanked everyone for their
support, briefly shared with guests the mission of YPFDJ and remembered
Martyr Saleh Meki with a presentation and moment of silence. The
presentation and prepared remarks by YPFDJ members were especially important
after Minister Meki’s inspirational words touched Denver young people at the
5th Annual YPFDJ Conference in Washington D.C. only one month before his
passing. His engaging seminars which emphasized the role of youth in
Eritrea’s nation building process were inspirational; but it was his
personal stories about his involvement in the movement that was most
inspiring and that youth wanted to share with the guests. After the moment
of silence, our talented performers continued to entertain the crowd up
until it was time to leave the venue. The energy and fun enjoyed by all was
high and undeniable!

YPFDJ and PFDJ Denver would like to say thank you to all those who supported
the event. We especially would like to thank all those who helped with and
attended the event, those who traveled such far distances to support us and
to all of our sponsors. The true success of this event is in the fact that
so many Eritreans came together as a united people affirming the idea of
“hade hizbi, hade libi.”
