Just days ago Meles Zenawi declared to the world that that he was
"personally disappointed" that critical parts of the draft resolution were
removed resulting in a watered-down final document. The original draft that
was obviously prepared by Ethiopia and pushed by Gabon included sanctions
that sought to ban "foreign firms from investing in Eritrea's mining
industry, outlawed imports of its minerals and sought to block payment of a
tax Eritrea puts on remittances from its nationals abroad" and yet the
Ethiopian government, true to form, lies to its people with straight face
claiming that it has worked so that the sanctions against Eritrea "do not
include the remittance that Eritreans living overseas sent home to their
families". *Deceit and deception are the primary working functions of the
Ethiopian government and this latest *utter falsehood yet again
demonstrates the hypocritical nature of the Woyane clique that stands at
the helm of power in Ethiopia.*

Ethiopia has no intention to harm Eritrean people: Ministry of Foreign
Affairs

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - Inter-Governmental Authority

said.

In a press conference he gave here on Thursday, the State Minister,
Ambassador Birhane Gebrekirstos said the decision made by the UN Security
Council to tighten the sanction against the Eritrean government is aims to
enforce the regime to cease all direct or indirect efforts to destabilize
the region.

According to the State Minister, the objective of the sanction is to
prevent the efforts of the Eritrean Government to undermine the peace and
stability in the Horn of Africa.

He said all the member states of IGAD asked the United Nations to toughen
sanctions against Eritrea because the region's stability is at stake.

The sanctions do not include the remittance that Eritreans living overseas
sent home to their families, he said and adding, it displayed the member
states’ concern for the people.

Ethiopia and IGAD member states are accommodating Eritreans refugees, he
said and adding, Ethiopia has offered university scholarships for 1,000
Eritreans.

He said the sanction imposed on the Eritrean government’s use of a
‘’Diaspora tax’ levied on individuals of Eritrean living overseas to
finance the supply of weapons will bring peace to the neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, the State Minister said though Ethiopia did not sent its troops
to Somalia; she is ready to provide the necessary support to that country
in accordance with the request of IGAD.
