Eritrea’s Self- Reliance a threat to exploitation

“Right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant." Martin Luther King

Self-reliance was the slogan of Eritrean revolution during the 30 years of struggle for independence. This doctrine will remain and still is the pumping power of blood to every policy, strategy, and development program that Eritrea strives to accomplish. One of the great poets of the mid-19th century, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said “The best lightning rod for your protection is your own spine”. The pursuit of happiness and true accomplishment in life emanates from within not from without.

The history of Eritrean struggle for independence and development progress resembles the process of seed germination. It is a fascinating process to see the tiny seed emerge from a dry dirty ground and watch it while it grows and transform in to a marvelous tree, then becomes a blessing and life giving plant providing a nutritious fruit to the inhabitants of the land. One wonders what principle and power a tiny seed can possibly have with in itself to become such a fruit bearing huge tree. The mystery is this: “unless the seed falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds”. The Eritrean seed is its own martyrs who gave their life for their beloved country. The God of Justice has not left Eritrea on the dirt, as He gave power to the tiny seed to blossom and grow in strength; in the same way through the sacrifice and blood of Eritrean heroes, He gave victory to Eritrea.

At times, due to the condition of water, light, moisture and temperature the seed may be in a dormancy stage hidden on the ground, so does the Eritrean struggle. Until the condition is right to emerge and grow, the seed of Eritrean spirit has passed all external interferences and difficulties to enjoy the current peace, tranquility and development. Unlike other countries who plant their trees on a shallow ground, and as soon the heavy sun rises up; it dies or when the whirl wind blows it fails. The Eritrean tree is built on self- Reliance. In Eritrea it is the tip of the root that emerges first not the head. The tip of the root is the anchor and thus, the current Economic stability, the exemplary social and political cohesion of its people and the rapid grass root economic development registered so far are therefore the manifestation and result of its Self-Reliant philosophy and determination. It is a fruit of the long and bitter sovereign struggle for political and economic independence; it was neither bought with money nor was given to Eritrea as a gift but was bought with the sweat and blood of its perseverant brave people. This is what watered the seed to germinate and it serves as a bond to the Eritrean people with unity in time of adversity and provocation.

The Eritrean people are like a calm ocean, dormant as the tiny seed hidden on the ground but as soon as you touch them they will rise up like a tornado. The forces of darkness have not learned from history and are still echoing and blowing their old trumpets. They may attempt to hinder the Eritrean expedition, but cannot reach to the tip of the root: the Eritrean spirit of devotion, commitment and dedication to self-reliance. The more they try to suppress it, the more magnificently multiplies and replicates.

Eritrea’s development strategy is an “all inclusive growth method”. It takes its root from the history of struggle for independence, in which all Eritreans were directly and indirectly participated in the liberation of their country. There is no “left behind” in the rapture of its development growth. Each house has shed the blood of its beloved and all will share the benefit. After all, genuine independence is the ability and liberty to think and govern its own. The principle of unselfish service is the only way to secure love, peace and prosperity. It is a principle of giving and receiving, a token of gratitude and true citizenship. Many of us had questioned as to why the forces of darkness masquerading themselves in different names and forms are continuously pressing and intimidating the Eritrean people. There is no other logical justification and reasoning to explain it other than their own selfish and adventurous exploitive strategy of narcissism.

It is undeniable fact that Eritrea’s self –reliance is a threat to exploitation but on the other hand it is the power towards sustainable peace and development for its people. There is a saying “no one can stop you but yourself”. No matter how much they try to hinder Eritrea’s progress, they cannot kill the Eritrean spirit that is built on genuine principles. Thomas Aquinas, 13th century theologian said “The highest manifestation of life consists in this: that a being governs its own actions. A thing which is always subject to the direction of another is somewhat of a dead thing”. The forces of darkness hate this golden principle as it is against their selfish interest. History is a testimony; whoever goes against the truth will eventually overcome by truth itself. They want to own the universe, and their mind set is only to exploit, as a result they use all excuses to subdue and intimidate the innocent.

No other nation has been repeatedly betrayed by the UN Security council than Eritrea. This new nation has patiently endured every plot and injustice. The unfair and unjust Resolution 1907 (2009) imposed on the people of Eritrea on fabricated allegations is a futile attempt to divert from the truth with a sole goal to control and exploit the resources of the region of horn of Africa through the mercenary and myopic regime in Ethiopia. It has to be noted that might and power are temporary tools to subdue and control the tangible aspect of the material world but are void of reaching the intangible aspect of the people, the Eritrean spirit and determinism for self-Reliance. Sooner or later truth will come out victoriously, as Martin Luther King said “right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant."
