6 July 2011-Global Action Day for EritreaSophia Tesfamariam

As the second year anniversary of the illegal, unfair and unjust
sanctions of the UN Security Council resolution 1907 (2009) approaches, and the
9th year anniversary since the Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC)
delivered its final and binding ruling, it is time to once again to raise our
voices for justice and the rule of law.

Eritreans and friends of Eritrea around the world are sending letters of protest via emails and faxes, and making phone calls to the UN Security Council and various Foreign Ministries to urge them to call for the unconditional lifting of the illegal, unfair and unjust US-Ethiopia engineered sanctions against Eritrea. They are calling on the Security Council to lift the
illegal, unjust UN Security Council’s resolution 1907 (2009) of 23 December
2009 which imposed sanctions against the people of Eritrea.
It should be recalled that the US-Ethiopia engineered Resolution was pushed through the Security Council by Susan E. Rice, the US Ambassador to the UN without ever producing evidence to support the allegations made against Eritrea. There is no evidence to date that shows any violations of
the Somalia Arms Embargo by Eritrea.
The sanctions imposed on Eritrea
remain a black mark on President Barack Obama's record.

As one of the guarantors and witnesses of the Algiers Peace
Agreements signed by Eritrea and Ethiopia, Eritreans are calling on the United States and the UN to uphold their legal and moral obligations and call on Ethiopia to unconditionally withdraw
its military forces from sovereign Eritrean territories, including Badme, in
compliance with international law and the final and binding delimitation and demarcation decisions of the Eritrea
Ethiopia Boundary Commission delivered on 13 April 2002 and 27 November 2007 respectively.

Flouting international law and in flagrant
violation of the Algiers Agreement, Ethiopia is still occupying
Sovereign Eritrea territory and has become a source of insecurity and
instability in the region. The US and its European allies continue to provide diplomatic, financial, political and military support and shield to the belligerent minority regime in Ethiopia led by Meles Zenawi, as it reneges on Agreements it has signed, violated international law, commits genocides in Ethiopia, accuses everyone, including his own citizens as being"terrorists".
Meles Zenawi has undermined the "war on terror". The minority regime has detained numerous innocent Ethiopians for voting it out of office and members of the Ethiopian opposition and journalists for "terrorist acts". Emboldened by the support and shield it receives from the US and its European allies, the regime has committed untold international crimes in Somalia, massacred his own people, and committed genocides in the Gambela, Ogaden and Oromo regions of Ethiopia.

Eritreans and friends of Eritrea are today calling for a day of Global Action for Eritrea, to stand up for the rule of law and call on Security Council to
shoulder its moral and legal obligations under the UN Charter and international
law, by lifting the unjust sanction and enforcing the Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary
Commissions’ delimitation and demarcation decisions.
