Cranes take Chan preps to Egypt

Uganda Cranes will use the Nile River Basin tournament to prepare for the Championship of African Nations (Chan) due February 4-25, 2011 in Khartoum, Sudan.
The Nile Basin event scheduled for next month in Cairo has also attracted Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and hosts Egypt. "This will be the perfect preparation for the team ahead of Chan," Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa told Daily Monitor during a Cranes dinner at Paradise Hotel on Sunday.
"I will be in Cairo on December 18 for the draws and other details," he added. The Fufa boss revealed that he would have a meeting with Cranes coach Bobby Williamson and the technical committee to evaluate the team's display at the just-concluded Cecafa Cup.
Cranes failed to defend the Cecafa title, losing 5-4 on penalties to hosts Tanzania at the semi-final stage. "We need to start early preparations in order to achieve our objectives. We also need to look for more talent in the league," Mulindwa noted.
Cranes are paired with hosts Sudan, Gabon, Algeria in Group A of the Chan tournament and the Cairo trip should give Williamson the opportunity to select the best possible squad. Egypt are financing Cranes' trip.
