Zersenay Tadese missed out on an unprecedented fifth consecutive World half-marathon title in Nanning, China.

Tadese, who set a new world record over the distance in March, was beaten into second place by Kenya's Wilson Kiprop, who edged ahead the final few metres to record a time of one hour and seven seconds, with Tadese four seconds adrift and Kenya's Sammy Kirop Kitwara a further 11 seconds back in third.

With three of the top four finishers, Kenya comfortably won the team competition ahead of Eritrea, with Ethiopia third.

Kenya were also victorious in the women's race with Florence Kiplagat crossing the line in 1:08.24. Kenya won the team competition ahead of Ethiopia - the two nations filling the first seven places - with Japan third.
