Dr. Ismail Inspects Kassala- Al-Laffa Road Linking Sudan with Eritrea
Khartoum, Sept. 29 (SUNA) - The Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, accompanied by the State Minister at the Ministry of Labour, Dr. Amina Dirar, Wednesday inspected the progress work in establishing Kassala - Al-Laffa road
He was also accompanied by the Wali (governor) of Kassala State, Mohamed Yousuf Adam, and the members of his government as well as the Executive Secretary of the East Sudan Development Fund, Abu Obieda Mohamed Duj
The road, which links Sudan to the neighbouring Eritrea with at the length of 26 kilomeres, will be inaugurated by President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer, the Eritrean President, Assias Afwerki, during the visit of the President to Kassala State, in the presence of a delegation from sister State of Qatar which is the financer of the road at a cost of 13 million dollars
The road is regarded as an important and strategic one and aims to reactivate the trade and economic activities between the two countries
Dr. Ismail and the accompanying delegation also inspected A-Laffa model village which was established at the cost of three million dollars with support of the Qatari gocernment within the framework of the efforts to help the war-affected and internal displaced people (IDPs)
The village is composed of 24 housing units, two basic and secondary schools, a mosque and a health centre as well as a police station, water and electricity networks and sanitation
The Presidential Advisor has commended the distinguished relations between Sudan and Eritrea, referring to the great role it has played for the signing of East Sudan Peace Agreement, saying that the coming days will witness more consolidation to the political and economic relations between the two countries
