Everyone agrees that the fact that the CECAFA Cup is being hosted by Eritrea is a tribute to the prowess and potential of the entire East Africa countries and the rest of the continent with an opportunity to harness the power of the international event to project Africa's potential.
The CECAFA Cup in Eritrea is a unique occasion to transform the Eritrean people's pride and enthusiasm into positive dynamic of solidarity, tolerance and development.
As we all tout for victory for the Eritrea team to get through to the Final stage, should never be mistaken as an accident. Everyone remembers that the Eritrean team that used to score victories in the 90s did not include youth U-17 and U-20 teams in its make up. But today we have formidable U-17 and U-20 teams that have already made a name for themselves and Eritrea.
It is to be recalled that U-20 Eritrea participated in the CECAFA cup of 2005 and was able to pull off some commendable results in Zanzibar. It is also to be recalled that the team, which was back then being coached by the Dutch Manager Rene Fiellep finished 3rd in the competition. The Assistant Manager of that time, Negash Teklit has at the moment taken the responsibility of coaching the Eritrean Team.
At this juncture, it is worth mentioning that 2005 squad followed the exact formation of 4-3-3 just like the present Dutch team and therefore had strong attacking formation, "notes he current manager, Negash Teklit.
It is not without reason that Negash Teklit further adds although he has no doupt of the skills of the attacking players; namely, Hermon Tecleab, Tesfalem Tecle and Kibrom Andemariam, owing to the fact that they lack international experience he is more confident of his mid fielders.
For its known that the Eritrean mid fielders are superb and known for their unity on the pitch. Abraham Tedros is one example of this exceptional line of midfielders. Abraham Tedros, who has been a member of the U-17, U-20 as well as the national squads, says that he prefers wearing a number 2 jersey on his team as well as his national side.
Hermon Tecleab is another midfielder, a player who is endowed with exceptional talent and stamina.
Different managers and supporters of the Eritrean team also believe that the defence line is even better. Many believe they might be able to repeat the feat that was performed by the defenders of Manchester United in 2008. it is to be recalled that Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic held a clean sheet for 14 consecutive matches.
But this is only going to be possible if the Goalkeeper Samuel Alazar does well. All managers and supporters of the Eritrean Team expect that Eritrea will lift the trophy for the 2010 CECAFA Cup on Saturday 28 August 2010 at Asmara Stadium.
