EU and Eritrea ratifies IRENA statute

ABU DHABI - European Union and Eritrea have ratified the statute of the Abu
Dhabi-headquartered International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which is
set to become an official body today.
With this the total number of countries that have ratified the statute of
this first international organisation to be formed in the 21st century will
go up to 28, its spokesperson told Khaleej Times. She said 26 countries had
completed this process as on June 8.
The membership of IRENA has doubled over the last 12 months and with the
joining of Colombia last week the agency now has 148 members.
When a country signs IRENA treaty, it undertakes the obligation not to
defeat the objectives and purposes of that treaty.
