Martyrs' Commemorated in Seattle, WA
June 20th, 2010 -- Eritrean nationals residing in the Greater Seattle area came together to commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines of Eritrea on the occasion of Martyrs' Day. The evening was marked by heartfelt speeches, songs, and activities dedicated to paying respect to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow countrymen.
In the spirit of national service, over 120 Eritrean nationals pledged $1 a day for two years to support the families of martyrs. Some citizens went as far as supporting multiple families simultaneously, drawing the praise of the audience. Finally, the night was capped-off by an emotional candlelight vigil in which participants marched around a altar bearing the signs and symbols which mark the spirit of Eritrean sacrifice, heroism, and martyrdom.
