Radical Change for the Betterment of the World

By Staff

The world finds itself today at a historic stage in which people around
the globe are demanding a radical change in the wake of the growing
awareness of peoples against dictatorship, monopoly, narrow mindedness
and racism. In the face of popular embitterment as a result of
domination and violation of fundamental human rights, people everywhere
are demanding social justice, tolerance and coexistence under the rule
of law. Such mounting wave of popular opposition fully attests to the
fact that the consciousness of the world public is gaining momentum.

As it is well known, the Government of Eritrea has been repeatedly
voicing criticism against the unjust and unbalanced resolutions of the
United Nations and other international and regional organizations. In
this respect, it has been stressing the need for radical change in
restructuring the aforementioned organizations so as to create conducive
ground for inclusive and equitable participation of all parties, and
thereby put an end to the phenomenon of a unipolar world order.

In the opinion of the Eritrean government or other correct strategies,
the success or failure of any vision hinges on the effective
implementation of the objectives thus cherished. It is to be noted that
the fundamental objectives of the UN Charter aim at safeguarding
international peace and security, ensuring respect of the rule of law
and upholding accepted international norms, putting into effect
agreements and treaties signed by members states, fostering
international solidarity with a view to resolving economic and social
problems encountered by the world public, respect of basic human rights
and freedoms, among others.

However, history has amply demonstrated that the UN has utterly failed
to safeguard international peace and security enshrined in its Charter,
let alone fulfill all the objectives it aspired to. This is so because
of the historical background of its founding, the prevailing voting
system in adopting resolution and the decisive role of its major funding
states. Hence, the world body is serving as a mere tool of the forces
that manipulate its Charter behind the scene. Due to its weakness and
paralyzed status, the organization is currently in a situation in which
it could not at all live up to the expectations of its charter
principles, thus becoming an instrument of neo-colonialism and illegal
practices on the part of the forces of domination and hegemony.

Although it could not be asserted that the UN did not make meaningful
contribution towards the maintenance of international peace and
security, safeguarding human rights and backing up development goals of
the world public, the progress it has made could nonetheless be not
rated that substantive at all.

It goes without saying, therefore, that governments around the world are
duty-bound to bring about radical change in the objectives and modus
operandi of the UN through establishing a new international alliance
that could guarantee the rights, dignity and equality of peoples around
the planet. The world public is eagerly looking for the founding of a
potent international organization that ensures equal representation and
one that is not manipulated by the few. Hence, the need for taking
speedy and practical initiatives towards creating a new and better
international order.
