30th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the
National Assocation of Eritrean Workers NAEW
21-25 November 2009 in Asmara

One of the major events of the National Confedaration of Eritrean Workers (NCEW) in the year 2009 is the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the NAEW.

Eritrean workers are preparing to celebrate the 30th inaugural ceremony of the founding of the NAEW after a hard - fought struggle for independence. The events is of paramount importance as it is being marked with free choice on the one hand and at a time when the world is undergoing due to the failure to place the work force at the center of trade and investment on the other.

When the NAEW embarked on its journey in 1979 one of its major objectives beyond Eritrea's liberation was to work vigorously to secure the social security of workers.
In the spirit, one of the primary goals of its constitution declared: if workers come across difficulties and could not perform their duties as a result of illness, disabilities, aging and the like they must get support and welfare benefits. That is why the NAEW exerted vigorous effort to promote the realization of the lofty objective.

On th contrary, if we compare the prevailing state of affairs as regards social security of workers at the global level, the reality in the poor countries less than 10%, in countries where there is moderate income the figures is 10-20%, in the highly developed nations, it is almost 100%. This scenario implies that only 20% of the world's total population gets social security.

Thus, the NCEW is pursuing its objective inline with the NAEW's cherished goals of seeking self reliance that is in tune with the nation's overall development programs.

The freedom and the prevailing conducives atmosphere in the country is the outcome of yesterday. Hence, our achievements today are the fruit of the sacrifices paid by many Eritrean Workers and other sections of the population who aspired and fought for the realization of a free and sovereign nation.
