'America's Got Talent:' the top 20 are revealed!
August 26, 9:40 PM

Wednesday night's episode of "America's Got Talent" had a decent share
of surprises, though they were slightly diluted due to a ton of
useless filler. (Do we need to watch Tuesday's performances three or
four more times? Probably not.) As always, the American audience put
the first four acts of their choice through to the next round. The
acts with the highest votes were:

Drew Stevyns

This was the surprise of the night. Drew had never been on the show
before Tuesday night, so he didn't exactly have much of a built-in fan
base. He's not a fantastic singer, but he should celebrate now being
the only wild-card act to advance to the semifinals.

The EriAm Sisters

The "America's Got Talent" producers did something very cruel tonight,
initially giving these singing siblings the impression that they were
going home before flipping the script and saying otherwise. These
girls have a ton of potential based on their audition, but a poor song
choice last night (along with too much dancing and extraneous stuff on
the stage) nearly doomed them.

Recycled Percussion

These guys are gaining some serious momentum, and they now are looking
like serious contenders after looking early on like a run-of-the-mill
drum act. Can they top their previous performance? That will be the
primary issue.

Barbara Padilla

Barbara was the closest thing to a lock on Wednesday night's episode,
so it was no surprise to see her go through. She's actually just as
good as Neal E. Boyd (last year's winner), but the fact that an opera
singer won last year could doom her in the future.

After this, the judges had to pick the final act:

Erik and Rickie

I'm still surprised that the judges picked Erik and Rickie, who have a
long future ahead of them and could have handled the elimination, over
Mia Boostrum (who had already experienced her share of heartbreak on
last year's show). Nonetheless, the judges made the right choice. Mia
doesn't have the singing chops of some of the other acts, and these
dancing kids bring a new element of variety into the competition.
