Selam all,

As we all know, the Algiers Agreements called for the establishement of 3 separate Commissions, each with its own mandate.

The Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission was mandated to delimit and demarcate the Eritrea Ethiopia border.

The Claims Commission was supposed to arbitrate claims for loss, damage or injury by one Government against the other and by nationals of one party against the Government of the other.

Then there was supposed to be a Commission to investigate the origins of the conflict. That Commission was never established by the UN and AU. It looks like the Claims Commission decided to give itself that mandate...

We need to read their Final awards of 17 August 2009 and the Statement from the minority regime in Ethiopia in this context.

Sophie
