Black Americans are just that, americans that are black. It is not an exageration to describe them as a crushed and broken people, with the prisons full of their sons, those that are not commiting crimes against the worlds peoples as members of the military, all of their institutions except their churches destroyed and their communities rife with crime and drugs. Today one of the more prominent black american "african centered historians" is in Asmara and really embarassing himself. Let me start with some of his statements posted online. The following is by Ronald Ross, aka Runoko Rashidi.
"1. Do Eritreans see themselves as African people? Do Eritreans think of
themselves as Black people? To this I say a resounding yes! Eritrea is part
and parcel of Africa. There has clearly been some mixture with Southwest Asia but Eritrea is a Black African country.

2. What about female circumcision here? It is still practiced? In fact, there are at least two kinds--one more severe than the other. It is estimated that at least twenty-five percet of the women of Eritrea are circumcized.

3. What is the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Eritrea? Apparently it is a real
problem and there are many AIDS orphans here. So far, however, I have not been able to get any real statistics. But I am assured that it is a severe problem."
Those who may be familiar with Ronald Ross's work might remember his published statement from 2001 that with out the leadership of black americans Africa would never be "liberated". (Prior to the publication of this viewpoint R. Ross stated the same view to an Eritrean ex-fighter who managed to be polite and tried to explain to him that Eritrea was liberated and that no thanks were due to the likes of him and other americans who happened to be black).
If Mr. Ross had bothered to do a little homework before visiting Eritrea he might not have embarassed himself so badly. His ignorance is a reflection of the general viewpoint of most black americans about Africa, that as bad as it may be for blacks in america they are not Africans and no way would they ever live in Africa. In an attempt to help educate the ignorant I will list a couple of facts about Eritrea that might help to encourage Mr. Ross to do a little homework before he puts his foot in his mouth again about Eritrea.
Eritrea is the birth place of  the ancient, glorious and world famous African civilization called the Land of Punt. This fact is now widely recognized by conservative, mainstream white organizations the likes of National Geographic but apparently unknown to Mr. Ross.
The Eritrean ethnic group known as the Nara speak an ancient language that is being used to decipher the previously unreadable scripts of ancient Kush/Sudan.
Eritrea has the largest number of archeologist sites in Sub-saharan Africa, and this being only the early days of exploration of such.
Tigrinia, the language spoken by most Eritreans, is related to the pre-Arabic dialects spoken in remote villages in Yemen, which establishes a link between the ancient Sabaen civilization and the ancient civilization of Punt.
Eritrea, along with the Orthodox Christian ethnic groups in Ethiopia, still use the Geez alphabet, the ancient African written language that puts a lie to the western lies that Africa had no written language. Just how old Geez is remains a mystery that is just being explored and all indications are that it is linked to ancient Punt, meaning that it predates all of the European and even Asian written languages.
There is a lot more that could be included but hopefully this will help convince Mr. Ross to do some homework and educate himself on the Oasis of Africa, Eritrea. Maybe, just maybe, he will put aside his american chauvanism and begin to study Africa as seen from the viewpoint of the only people on the continent who have liberated themselves, all nine tribes of Eritrea. If Mr. Ross is genuine in his interest in the present situation in Eritrea he can check out the internet, starting with Dehai and the Onlinejournal. Awet na'hafash and selam and rain for Eritrea
